Articles and gender: le, la, les, un, une
French nouns are masculine or feminine: le livre, la table. Les is the plural for both. Un / une mean "a".
Learn every noun with its article, because the ending does not always show the gender.
Before a vowel or silent h, le and la become l': l'ami, l'heure.
Des is the plural of un / une: des livres "some books".
Pattern: le / la / les / un / une + noun
